North Bay & District Student Robotics

The main purpose of NBDSR is to promote STEAM education among 6 to 19-year-old students by encouraging their participation in the FIRST Robotics program. The charity supports over 400 primary and 30 high school students annually in the North Bay and surrounding areas, including FIRST Team 1305, Near North Student Robotics Initiative, Ice Cubed, and other local FIRST Robotics programs such as FLL Jr., FLL, and FRC teams.

More than 50 volunteer mentors, including engineers, technologists, teachers, entrepreneurs, and industry professionals from various fields, guide the students. Elementary students use Lego robotics, while high school students design and build robots using CAD software and advanced tools to compete at their level. NBDSR provides funding for the necessary tools, equipment, materials, and parts to enhance the students' learning experience.

Aside from robotics, the students also gain experience in collaborative learning, graphic design, research, safety, essay and letter writing, accounting, project management, and public speaking. Those aged 13 to 19 also participate in outreach activities such as conferences, workshops, trade shows, and interactive demonstrations that promote STEAM education. Organizing these events and excursions further develops the students' life skills. The program's positive impact extends beyond North Bay and Nipissing, affecting communities and people elsewhere.
